Laois robotics world champions to be honoured with civic reception

Rosenallis NS students celebrated a phenomenal win at the World VEX IQ Robotics Championship
A civic reception has been organised to celebrate Rosenallis NS students who took home a major win at the World VEX IQ Robotics Championship in the US in April.
Laois County Council will host the civic reception for Team RNS from Rosenallis NS who travelled to St Louis, Missouri in April to take part in the World VEX IQ Robotics Championships.
The team went on to represent their school and country at the world championships after their win at the All Ireland VEX IQ competition in MTU Cork back in February.
Rosenallis NS had another brilliant team take part in the national competition, Rizzbots, who managed to earn a fantastic fourth place tied with Paddock NS.
There was a huge outpouring of support from locals to get Team RNS to the US to take part in the world championships.
Rosenallis NS received over €120,000 in funding from people in Laois to sponsor their trip to the final rounds in St Louis, Missouri.
Thanks to the generous donations of Laois locals, students Ciara Dunphy, Luke Somers, Ollie McEvoy, Katie Murphy, Grace Murphy, Hannah Ormonde, David Goodwin, David Moyles, Aisling Guinan, Bobbee Friel and Lauren Kenny could attend the final with one parent each, along with principal Rory Walsh, teacher Aaron Mackessy and Laois County Council STEM Officer Seanie Morris.
The school made their county proud at the competition, beating over 420 schools from around the world to win the Engineering Division Judges’ Award.
To celebrate this huge achievement, Laois County Council will host a civic reception for the team at 7.30pm on Thursday, June 25 at Áras an Chontae in Portlaoise.
