Laois school gets creative to send important anti-racism message

Portlaoise Educate Together National School received over 400 entries to poster competition
Pupils from Portlaoise Educate Together National School have been busy putting the finishing touches to their anti-racism posters as part of a school-wide competition.
Over 400 entries were received making it very difficult for the judges to choose the winners.
The poster competition formed part of a week-long Against Racism series of events for students, staff and parents held earlier this year. The school hosted hip-hop dance classes, had lessons about being anti-racist and hosted a Cuisine Day focussed on the many amazing countries in the school.
They invited guest speakers including Cllr. Uruemu Adejinmi-Longford Municipal District-Longford County Council, Liang Feng, a parent in the school, Board Member and local businesswoman and Bolagi Adeyanju, Founder of Laois Africa.
The school thanked everyone who participated and who took part in the poster competition.
"Thank you to our judges Sophie, Fiona and Kristina for looking at every entry and making those difficult decisions," said a school spokesperson.
The overall winner was fourth class pupil Alegra Baruseviciute, second place went to sixth class pupil Hina Hafeez and third place went to Roberta Nicola Leca from fifth class.
