Portlaoise College students worked in a wide range of organisations

Portlaoise College’s Transition Year students have just wrapped up the first of their work experience blocks, making a real contribution to local businesses and community organisations.

Placements ranged from Dunamaise Arts Centre, Mr Price, The Midlands Park Hotel, Browns Fruit and Veg to Hughes Pharmacy and the Irish Wheelchair Association, as well as local primary schools, giving students the chance to learn practical skills while supporting the town they live in.placeholder image

“The work experience programme isn’t just about learning new skills,” said Pauric Kenny, TY Coordinator. “It’s about forming meaningful connections. Our students give their energy and enthusiasm, and in return, they gain insight into how our community functions and thrives.”

The next block of work experience won’t take place until February, leaving plenty of time for students to reflect on their first placements and plan for the next stage.
