Latest golf results from around Laois as The Heath Golf Club crowned Leinster Champions
They won the Leinster Womens Revive Active Four-Ball with news from Mountrath and Roscrea
There were joyous scenes in The Heath Golf Club recently as they captured the Leinster Womens Revive Active Four-Ball. The team made up of Catherine Reilly, Sadie Ging, Helen Kelly, Maria Delaney, Mary Culliton, Sarah Bergin, Mary Cushen and Noeleen Byrne, with super subs Therese Ryan and Mary Malone were guided by the management duo of Marion Mills and Jane O’Rourke.
The first outing was a 3-1 win over Birr Golf Club. This was followed by a 2.5-1.5 victory over the The Royal Curragh Golf Club. Match 3 yielded a 2.5-1.5 win against Waterford Golf Club. Next up was New Forest Golf Club, Co. Westmeath with The Heath being victorious on a 2.5-1.5 scoreline. The next game was against Mullingar Golf Club with a victory of 3-1. Excitement was building as The Heath now faced Headfort in the semi final of the competition where once again they were successful with a scoreline of 3.5-0.5.
Now it was the turn of Maria and Helen who faced a very tough Greystones pairing and unfortunately went down in their match on the 14th green. Winning on the 13th green Noeleen and Therese set up the match for a very exciting finish.
All eyes now turned to the pairing of Sarah and Mary, who were level coming down the 18th fairway. After a blistering 3rd shot by Mary onto the green she sank the 8ft putt to halve the hole and to win the Leinster Pennant to the cheers of the team supporters.
The team gelled well together and could be regularly seen on The Heath putting in hours of practice before every match. They travelled to each of the venues to get to know the different courses. They were ably put together by the team Manager, Marion Mills, assisted by Jane O’Rourke. It all paid off as The Heath Golf Club Womens Revive Active team were crowned champions.
