A man appeared in court accused of criminal damage by headbutting a fast food restaurant wall in Portlaoise.

Paul O’Shaughnessy (59) of Apartment 2, Parnell Street, Thurles, Tipperary is accused of causing €300 in damage to a plaster wall at Pizza Max, Main Street, Portlaoise and being intoxicated on November 2 last.

At the sitting of Portlaoise District Court, Judge Susan Fay asked the man if he was working?

“I am not. I am retired. I have serious health difficulties,” he told the judge.

Judge Fay said she would assign him a solicitor under the free legal aid scheme. Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald was assigned to the role and he requested disclosure in the case.

Judge Fay remanded the defendant on bail to appear again on December 16 when a plea or date for hearing is to be determined.
