Man admits drink driving in Laois

The man appeared before Portlaoise District Court
A driving ban was handed down to a man who admitted drink driving in Stradbally.
Maurice O’Connor (68) of 13 Woodview, Stradbally, pleaded guilty to drink driving at the Timahoe Road, Stradbally on November 10, 2024.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was in court to confirm his plea of guilty. She said the reading was 54 over 100.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the man had one previous conviction for a similar offence but it dated back to 2001.
Ms Fitzpatrick said her client carries out work power washing and has commitments over the summer months. She asked that the court consider postponing any disqualification until November 1.
Judge Cody asked Sgt Kriby about the defendant.
“He is a decent man. I don’t expect to see him before the court again,” Sgt Kirby replied.
Judge Cody then imposed a two year disqualification which he postponed until November 11. He also fined the man €200 at the sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
