Man allegedly slapped woman as she slept in Laois

A man appeared in court accused of assaulting a woman in her bed. 

The man (67), who cannot be named due to reporting restrictions, is alleged to have gone into the woman’s bedroom as she was sleeping and slapped her in the face a number of times on February 16 last. He is accused of assault causing harm.  

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the woman was alleged to have suffered soft tissue damage to her nose during the assault. 

On hearing there were no fractures, Judge Nicola Andrews accepted jurisdiction and ordered reporting restrictions. 

She adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on December 9, 2024.
