Man allegedly stole television from his mother's house in Laois

A man appeared in court accused of stealing a television from his mother’s house.
Gavin Lawless (25) of 75 Rossvale, Portlaoise, is accused of burglary at his address on November 11, 2025.
He appeared before Portlaoise District Court via video link.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the case could remain in the district court subject to the judge accepting jurisdiction.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said “the alleged injured party has made submissions to the State”. She said they wanted to withdraw the complaint.
Sgt Kirby said it would be alleged the man went to his mother’s address as a trespasser and stole a 43 inch television. He said it would be further alleged that the defendant was arrested and made full admission to selling the television for €50.

Judge Susan Fay adjourned the matter back to Portlaoise District Court on July 28.
