Man sent for trial over Laois assault 

A book of evidence was served on a man who is accused of assault causing harm in Laois. 

John Nevin (23) of 21 Grove Park, Mountmellick is accused of assaulting a man causing harm at Portlaoise Leisure Centre on June 17, 2023. 

A sitting of Portlaoise District Court was told the defendant had been served with a book of evidence in relation to the case. 

Judge Nicola Andrews gave the defendant an alibi warning and sent the man forward for trial to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court beginning on June 11. 

She remanded the man on continuing bail with conditions and granted legal aid for a solicitor and barrister in the case.
