Man stole phone at Electric Picnic and transferred €2,400 with app

A man stole a €600 phone at Electric Picnic and transferred €2,401 from its Revolut to his own account.
Andrei Sava, 22, of 315 Virginia Heights, Tallaght, Dublin 24 admitted stealing the Samsung S10 phone at Electric Picnic, Cosby Hall, Stradbally on September 2 last year. He also admitted stealing €2,401 at Electric Picnic on September 3, 2022.
Garda Sergeant Michael Tarpey said the man took the phone from the pocket of the injured party at 10pm on September 2. It was valued at €600 and it was never recovered.
“Between four and five am he got into that phone and transferred €2,400 from Revolut into his own Revolut,” said Sgt Tarpey. He said no money had been repaid. He said the man had one previous conviction.
Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said his client has expressed remorse over the incident. He said the guilty plea means gardai won’t have to prepare a file for a case which would have been complex.
He said his client was a 22 year old who was born in Ireland but of Romanian descent. He said he works as a delivery driver for Just Eat and had brought €750 to court with him.
“At Electric Picnic he had a cocktail of drugs and alcohol,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
He said his client was committed to paying back the money in full.
“He appreciates the trauma this has caused the injured party,” he added.
Judge Andrew Cody said the total was €3,000 and there was €2,250 outstanding. He ordered that the €750 be given to the injured party.
He remanded the case to Portlaoise District Court on October 26 when he said another €750 was to be brought to court.
