This November, Laois Heritage Society will hold a talk on the effects the Great Famine had on Ballyfin.

Local historian Terry Dunne will base his lecture on new research funded by the Heritage through Art Grant, supported by Creative Laois, Laois Heritage Office and Laois Heritage Society.

Mr Dunne has researched the history behind the Famine Mortuary at Ballylusk, Ballyfin. It is believed to be the only surviving Famine mortuary in the country.

'Memory & History: the Great Famine in Ballyfin' will take place in the Midlands Park Hotel on Thursday November 28 at 8pm.

The event is free for members of Laois Heritage Society, and €5 for non members. Membership is available on the evening.

Laois Heritage Sociery and its members have been involved in many projects locally, including the relocation of the War Memorial in Portlaoise to a new site at Tower Hill, and the takeover of Emo Court by the State.
