Homeless support charity shops have been shut down

Two charity shops operated by the Midlands Simon homeless charity have been closed down in Laois and Offaly.

The shops are in prominent Main Street premises in both Portlaoise and Tullamore.

It followed a recent sale where everything was reduced to €1.

It is understood that the decision to close was taken by management of the charity.

The shops had sold men’s, ladies and children’s clothing and footwear, jewellery, homeware, books and video games.

Manned by volunteers and stocked by public donations, their profits were used to support Midlands Simon services for homeless people.

The Portlaoise shop opened in early 2014, operating for a decade. The Offaly shop opened in late 2013.

There is one other Midlands Simon charity shop, based in Golden Island, Athlone.
