Missing barrier creating 'dangerous' incline on Laois bridge

A final barrier on a repaired Laois bridge is yet to be installed, with no money to build it.
In the meantime, the bridge is "very dangerous" according to a local councillor.
Laois County Council say they have to apply for another wave of funding from Government to complete the repairs to Sheeran's Bridge on Sheeran's Lane in Colt.
Cllr John Joe Fennelly is glad to hear that for now, repairs will be carried out.
He tabled a motion to a recent meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District, asking the council to erect the remaining barrier.
The council replied that they plan to seek funding under Bridge Rehabilation Works 2024, to install the barrier on the bridge on the local road called L-26812-0. For now they will visit the site with Cllr Fennelly to see what repairs are needed in the interim.
"I am very happy with that. A lot of work has been done on that bridge over a number of years. The remaining barrier is yet to be done," Cllr Fennelly noted.
Cllr Willie Aird seconded and stressed the danger of the missing barrier.
"It's very dangerous for someone could go down the incline," he said.
