Moore’s masterclass secures prestigious John McGrath Memorial Trophy

He got 43 points to take the win
On Friday last, members of Na hIománaithe Golf Society travelled to Thurles G.C. for their Annual Inter County Team event. This competition is always one of the highlights of the golfing calendar and a prestigious one to win. In excess of 100 players participated, a resounding success.
In the individual event, some exceptional scores were recorded none more so than that produced by Laois man, Tommy Moore, who left the huge field trailing in his wake, as he cruised home with a magnificent 43 points. The course was in perfect condition, despite some tricky greens, which proved somewhat difficult for some, however, not enough to prevent the former St Canice’s stickman capturing the “John McGrath Memorial” Trophy.
John’s son, Sean, presented the Trophy, a fitting way to honour his Dad’s memory as John was Secretary of the Society from 1986 until 2018, he also wooed Waterford hurling fans with many fine performances for the Decies, picking up numerous honours during the course of a distinctive club and inter county career.
In the team event the Laois team, which won this event in 2022, were represented by John Taylor, Richie Moloney, John Delaney, Seamus Kennedy, Tom Moore, Alex Stenson and Gerry Kavanagh. On a day of wonderful weather and great scoring conditions, they finished just outside the podium, a respectable 4th.
