“It is deadly there at times. Something needs to be done," Councillor says

Someone will be killed if action isn’t taken to improve safety at a junction in Timahoe, a council meeting was told.

Fianna Fail Cllr Paschal McEvoy has asked in a motion “that Laois County Council carry out a Safety Assessment at Kerrs Corner, Timahoe.”

“It is deadly there at times. Something needs to be done. We need to put something on the road there,” he told a meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.

He said people coming from Stradbally who aren’t familiar with the area don’t realise there is a stop sign at the junction and “drive straight through” it.

In a written response, Senior Executive Engineer at  Roads Design, James Dowling said: Laois County Council’s Road Design Department will meet Councillor McEvoy on site and carry out a safety inspection.”

Cllr McEvoy said “I look forward to meeting James there.”

Fine Gael Cllr PJ Kelly seconded the motion. He described it as a “dangerous” junction.
