Public urged to be careful

Laois Offaly Gardai reminded road users to remain vigilant while out and about this morning.

“An Garda Síochána would like to advise road users planning on travelling early tomorrow morning to be mindful that there may still be fallen trees, debris and flooding on the roads, particularly on secondary roads,” Gardai stated.

They appealed to people to “please be extra vigilant and drive carefully.”

On Sunday evening, Gardai published a list of areas in Laois and Offaly where trees had fallen during the storm.

In Laois there were trees down across the county with power supply impacted in places.

According to ESB Networks, power remains out to 550 properties in Mountrath and a further 113 properties without power in Mountmellick this morning.

The ESB are advising people to stay clear of fallen wires.

ESB Networks said they would like to remind the general public to stay safe and stay clear of  electricity infrastructure.

“As always, please keep well clear of electricity poles and overhead lines. Contact with live electricity is extremely dangerous and can be fatal. You must always keep a safe distance because electricity is very powerful and can jump gaps.”

“Remember: Always stay safe and stay clear of electricity lines and wires as these are live and therefore dangerous.”

“You can report any damage to ESB Networks by contacting our emergency phone number: 1800 372 999/021 238 2410,” the ESB stated.
