New layout out causing major parking problems in Laois town

Parking problems in Stradbally near GAA pitch and Laois Arthouse
Parking for residents in Court Square, Stradbally, has become a ‘major problem’ due to a loss of spaces caused by the new layout of the square.
So claimed Cllr Paschal McEvoy, Fianna Fáil, when he tabled a motion calling on Laois County Council to erect 'residents-only' signs at houses on the square.
Cllr McEvoy claimed that a new layout in Court Square has caused problems that are worsened with people attending the Laois Arthouse and Stradbally GAA pitch. He said cars are restricted from parking in the GAA grounds in bad weather has made matters worse.
He said visitors to the two facilities are parking in front of houses some of which are occupied by elderly residents.
“It is a major major problem,” he said.
Philip McVeigh, Senior Executive Engineer, replied in writing.
“Laois County Council will arrange to meet with the elected member at this location to identify parking spaces that require signage,” he said.
The issue was raised at a meeting of the Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District meeting.
