The lack of a timeline to remove overhead ESB wires in a Laois village is a cause of concern for a councillor.

The ESB and Laois County Council are having discussions about placing wires underground at a bridge in Killeshin village in Laois. However the money must first be found for the job.

Cllr Aisling Moran wants a definite timeline given for the job.

She tabled a motion to the November meeting of Graiguecullen Portarlington Municipal District, asking the council to liaise with the ESB to remove wires "as prevoiusly discussed".

“We have to push for the timescale again. You have done a lot of work around the area, fantastic work. It looks like a different village already,” she said.

The council stated that a site meeting had taken place to identify the works required.

"We are liaising with the ESB with a view to having a proposal prepared for a possible future funding application," area engineer Philip McVeigh said.

Cllr Ben Brennan had seconded the motion.

“We need a timeline, I don’t think this is going to happen too quickly,” he said.

"The word of the day is timeline," Cllr Moran said, having requested timelines on multiple other issues at the meeting.
