A road near Portlaoise where floods regularly fill the entire road, is not guaranteed to get repair work, Laois County Council has said.

The busy road is at Ballyteegan, next to Crookedy junction on the Ridge Road. Several houses are sited off it, with two more under construction.

However it fills with floodwater in heavy rains.

Laois County Council is planning to request funding to carry out drainage on the road in 2024, but it depends on getting the cash.

Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald pressed for certainty, as she tabled a motion on the issue to the October meeting of the Portlaoise Municipal District.

"Do you think it will be done? the water goes the whole way across the road. I've been getting complaints and photos. It is a really bad issue," she said.

Senior engineer Wes Wilkinson confirmed that the Portlaoise MD office plans to apply for drainage funding this year for the work on the L2120 road.

"It's quite likely but I can't guarantee it," he said.
