Numbered parking spaces requested at Laois estate

Independent Cllr Aisling Moran requested the measure at a recent council meeting
There have been calls to number car parking spaces for residents of Court View in Stradbally.
Independent Cllr Aisling Moran requested the measure and asked for a designated car parking space for one particular resident.
She raised the issue in a motion at the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
“It is happening a lot. I am sure you are all coming across it with housing estates that were put up a few years ago and there is limited parking spaces,” she said.
Cllr Moran asked “that Laois County Council put a designated parking space on Main Street, Stradbally outside Court View for one of the residents and to please number all other car parking spaces in Court View.”
She said there is a growing need for parking spaces as there are two or three and four cars in each house.”
Cllr Moran suggested that one number be allocated for each house and that around 10 or 15 additional spaces be free to use for anyone who needed it. She said there was one individual in particular who needed a space close to their home.
“In this particular situation the person that owns the house, it would be beneficial to have a parking space outside their house.
Fianna Fail Cllr Paschal McEvoy seconded the motion and agreed that it would be a good idea to have the numbers in place.
In response Senior Executive Engineer, Philip McVeigh, said “Laois County Council will arrange to meet with the elected member on site to review this issue.”
