Portlaoise Educate Together NS recently held a Teacher Artist Partnership initiative, where a fantastic school performance was held for family and friends. More below pictures. Both Shona McDonald and Marie Mulligan completed a summer course last June that resulted in the school getting partnered with Dale McKay (musician). "Over the course of 16 weeks he came in and worked with Ciara Purcell's 3rd Class every Friday for an hour," the school told the Leinster Express / Laois Live. "The end result was a performance in our school hall where parents, grandparents, etc. were invited to attend. "The children shared information from projects they had completed about music in different countries around the world. They sang songs using their own body to create a rhythm and beat. They wrote the lyrics to there own song and performed it while Dale played guitar," they said. Each pupil also, played the bodhrán under Dale's lead. Dale performed a solo piece to demonstrate how a bodhrán can be played at a professional level. The entire showcase was presented by the pupils and every pupil had the opportunity to speak on stage. "It all ran amazingly well and our school is incredibly proud of the fabulous and fantastic performance that 'Dale and the United World Friendship' put on," the school finished.
