Young musicians and singers took to the stage in the new Outdoor Performance Space on the grounds of Laois Music Centre on Friday night.

They performed as part of the finale concert of Music Generation Laois’ annual Summer School of Rock and Pop.

The Summer School caters for young people age ten up to eighteen, each placed in a rock/pop band, and then mentored by a professional musician across five days.

This year, 54 young people signed up to the Summer School, including a young musician from Belfast, and another from County Clare, who travelled to Laois to take part in the event. Professional musicians working with young participants were James O’Connor, Denise Boyle, David Harte, Ros O’Meara, Terry Byrne, John Davidson, Hendryk Kar and Luke McHugh.

6 original songs were created as part of the Summer School, and the very well-attended concert on Friday evening including a showcase of original music and covers, and a large group performance of The Killers ‘All These Things That I’ve Done.’

Speaking after the event, Rosa Flannery Music Development Officer with Music Generation Laois said, ‘Young musicians and singers taking part in this year’s Summer School were absolutely fantastic, they worked really hard across the week, and we know their dedication paid off by the quality of their performances at tonight’s concert. They were so creative, and all completely music-mad, its just been a brilliant week here in Laois Music Centre.’
