The proposed retirement village includes a 116 bed nursing unit
A developer has been granted permission to alter plans for a previously approved retirement village in Laois.
Karv Development Limited was granted permission to alter the previously approved plans for the proposed retirement village at Tierhogar, Killenard subject to three conditions.
The planned retirement village includes 116 bed nursing care centre, 40 assisted living units, 65 sheltered homes, a warden's gate lodge, support facilities such as medical consulting rooms, dispensary, gym/pool, bistro/restaurant and a community meeting room. It was approved by An Bord Pleanala on appeal.
Laois County Council has now approved alterations to the plan that was granted permission by An Bord Pleanala.
The latest application seeks design alterations to the medical consulting rooms and dispensary, gym, bistro/restaurant and the removal of the swimming pool which were to be housed in the same building. It includes a new stand alone substation along with associated site works.
The changes will see the building reduce in height from a two-storey to single storey with the maximum height reduced from 8.957m to 6.975m. There is no proposal to alter the permitted brick and render finishes. The floor area will be reduced from 1,936.4sqm to 1,101.25sqm.
The first-floor leisure facility and ground floor swimming pool will now be omitted. The gym is to be relocated to the ground floor with a pickleball court to replace the swimming pool.
The plans were lodged with Laois County Council on June 24 and approved subject to three conditions on August 15.
