Planning lodged for astro turf pitch at rural Laois GAA club

Proposed development includes all-weather surface and walking track
Slieve Bloom GAA Club has submitted a planning application to Laois County Council seeking permission to install a new astro turf playing surface.
The proposal includes the development of a synthetic playing area measuring 50 metres in length by 20 metres in width, along with associated floodlighting, fencing, and all related site works at the club's grounds in Deerpark, Mountrath, Co.Laois.
While the new facility will be significantly smaller than a full-size GAA pitch, it is expected to provide a valuable all-weather space for skills training, juvenile coaching sessions, and small-sided games.
According to the planning documents, the project will also involve upgrading the boundary fencing and enhancing access at the site, which already includes a full-size grass pitch and dressing room facilities. As part of the same application, the club is also planning to develop a new walkway around the grounds, which would offer members of the local community a safe and accessible loop for exercise and recreation.
The plans were submitted to Laois County Council in late May, and a decision on the application is expected by July 23.
