Planning permission is to be sought for a new business campus in a Laois village.

The campus is planned in Ballybrittas village, on a site where permission to build 27 houses was refused.

Applicant HYBLA Transport Ltd has issued a notice of its intention to apply to Laois County Council for the permission.

The company seeks to build two 2-storey buildings, each with commercial retail units on the ground floor and office units on the first floor.

They are on a site at Tullaghan, Ballybrittas. Each unit would measure 265 sq m on the ground floor and 245sq m on the first floor, totalling floor spaces of 1,020 sqm or 10,979 square feet.

The plan will also include an upgraded entrance, access roads, car parking spaces, bin storage and the demolition of an existing workshop and office.

Four years ago in 2019, HYBLA had been refused permission to build 27 houses at Tullaghan.

The planners said that they were unsatisfied that the development could be facilitated by the foul sewer network serving Ballybrittas, making the proposed development "premature and prejudicial to public health" as well as "contrary to proper planning and sustainable development".

Laois County Council planners also said that the land was zoned business, not residential, contravening the county development plan.
