Plans for extra accommodation at Laois hotel site

Plans have been developed for accommodation on the site of the East End Hotel in Portarlington.
A plan was submitted with Laois County Council last week to develop additional hotel rooms on the site of the hotel.
The development on Main Street in Portarlington consisted of ten hotel room units in three single storey buildings.
The plans, which the council deemed an incompleted application, are for “development on lands at The East End Hotel, Main Street, Portarlington, Co Laois, within the curtilage of Protected Structure Reg. No. 12900232 (RPS no. 137).”
The development would require the removal of 12 trees and the construction of a new doorway and ramped pedestrian access to the rear garden.
It also involved the provision of cycle parking and alterations to the existing car park. A Natura Impact Statement(NIS) was also included with the application.
In recent times the East End Hotel was used to house asylum seekers and it was more recently advertised as rental property aimed at commuters.
However, as the plans was deemed an incompleted application, the applicant will need to finalised plans before any decision can be made by the council.
