Portlaoise apartment residents 'blocking road' cause 'extreme danger'

Laois Fine Gael councillor wants yellow lines at estate entrance
Poor parking by apartment residents in a Portlaoise estate is causing "extreme danger" for others, a local Fine Gael councillor claims.
Rathevan housing estate has a large number of houses and apartments, all sharing one entrance near the Borris Road.
Cllr Thomasina Connell has asked Laois County Council to stop parking on the entrance road, by painting yellow lines.
She described the issue, while tabling a motion on it to the April meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.
"Apartment block residents don't use the spaces allocated, they insist on blocking the road to Rathevan Heights," she claimed.
"On one side cars are parking up the hill, coming around the corner on the wrong side because people insist on parking on the corner. It is causing extreme danger. Residents are very unhappy," Cllr Connell said.
The council agreed to paint double yellow lines opposite house number 12, Rathevan Heights at the nearest apartment block.
