A Portlaoise Logistic company owner escaped conviction after one of his former employees was caught speeding twice in one day.

Raul Filip of RCF Logistics Ltd, Unit B11, National Enterprise Park, Portlaoise was summoned to court over two unpaid speeding fines at the R445 Clogheen, Monasterevin on October 30 last.

Solicitor Josphine Fitzpatrick explained that her client ran a logistics company and one of his former employees was driving on the day.

She said the driver was nominated and attempted to pay but late delivery meant the payment wasn’t accepted. She said the man was detected speeding going into and coming out of Monasterevin on the same day.

“Unfortunately the nomination was made out of time,” Ms Fitzpatrick said. She asked the court to consider a payment from her client.

“He does employ 32 people in his logistics business, four of whom are drivers,” she said.

Judge Andrew Cody said he would strike out the summonses if €1,000 was donated to the Portlaoise Action To Homelessness(PATH) charity.

The money was handed over and Judge Cody struck out the charges.
