Prayers answered and drinks offered for Laois housing plan

Prayers to prevent a road death were followed by an offer of a drink to reward progress by Laois County Council for a Laois village.
Cllr Ollie Clooney is ready to celebrate the demolition of a house in Durrow village, which makes way for a safer road junction, and construction of 24 new council homoes.
He thanked Laois County Council at their recent October meeting.
"If we had a bar here today, I'd buy ye all a drink. The orange house has gone out.
"Prayers were said in the chapel, candles were lit and it definitely worked, no-one was killed.
"I welcome the house there, it will be a grand development," Cllr Clooney said.
The council confirmed at the meeting that following demolition of the house, they intend to build a total of 24 homes on the Derry Road in Durrow.
This includes ten single bed one storey houses, five 2 bed two storey houses, five 3 bed two storey houses, and four 2 bed apartments.
The project has been submitted to the Department of Housing for Stage 2 approval for its design and cost.
