The longest running agricultural show in Ireland will again welcome thousands to its Laois home this month, promising not just a plethora of prizes for keen competitors, but a mega truck show, live music, food and entertainment.

The Ossory Agricultural Show & Truck Show is set to captivate audiences once again as it returns to the Ossory Showgrounds in Coolfin, Rathdowney on Sunday, July 23.

Passionate competitors from across the country will converge to try and win prizes in a bewildering range of categories such as cattle, sheep, horses, poultry, dogs, flowers, vegetables, baking, crafts, produce, and photography.

The Ossory Show is a wonderful place where the owners of elite Blonde d’Aquitaine Cattle, Texel Sheep and Boer Goats, to mention but a few, all compete alongside the jam makers, scone bakers and photograph takers.

Among the main attractions, attendees can look forward to the thrilling Hunt Chase, where teams from all over Ireland compete over a course of 8 to 10 fences. Adding to the excitement, this year's event introduces new activities that enrich an already impressive itinerary.

The Ossory Show Vintage Corn Cutting Display will take place over 8 acres, alongside the popular Vintage Threshing.

Continuing the vintage theme, there will be a wonderful display of vintage and classic cars and vintage tractors.

Visitors can also watch the fiercely contested Tug of War Competition, explore a variety of trade stands, and savour delicious food from Bosco’s Catering, while enjoying live music and entertainment throughout the day.

Hosted by The Highwaymen Ireland, renowned for their dedication and love for the road, the truck show features competition in 25 categories, including Best New Truck and Best Pre-1993 Truck.

To kick start the festivities, the Trucker's Party Night is on Saturday, July 22 from 6 pm. Attendees can revel in live music from Abbeyfolk and DJ John Whelan and beverages from the on-site bar.

The Ossory Agricultural Show has a rich history, running since 1898. It has endured many challenging times, including two World Wars, the War of Independence, Civil War and Foot and Mouth outbreaks. It took the Covid-19 pandemic to force a halt in 2020 and 2021.

Named after its patron, Lord Castletown, the Baron of Ossory, the show was first held at the Donaghmore Workhouse Museum before moving to Rathdowney in 1915. In 1999, the showgrounds transitioned to a temporary site in Ballacolla before finding its permanent home at Coolfin in the year 2000.
