PROPERTY WATCH: 'Charming' Laois cottage up for auction at €75,000

A "charming" two-bed cottage in Laois in need of complete refurbishment is going under the hammer in an online auction with a low starting price.

It is situated on a 0.70 acre plot in the townland of Luggacurren, between Timahoe village and the Electric Picnic home of Stradbally. Bids will start at €75,000. More below photos.

The property is close to the village of Timahoe and described as a 10-minute drive from Ballylinan town. It includes an outhouse in good condition with beautiful stonework and a modern steelclad roof.

The two storey cottage itself has original features such as slate roof, timber lined vaulted ceilings, a cast iron fireplace and sash windows. It's thick walls would point to the possibility that under concrete plaster are original stone walls waiting to be restored.

Although in need of major redevelopment work, the selling agents say they are expecting lots of interest from potential buyers who want to create the perfect family home in an idyllic rural setting.

The house would also qualify the buyer for the Croí Conaithe vacant homes grant which gives up to €70,000 for repairs.

The property, which has the folio number LS21665F, is close to the N80 Portlaoise to Carlow road as well as the M7 and M9 motorways.

It is one of ten lots from five counties are going under the hammer in youbid.ie’s July 27 sale, starting at 10am.
