The issue was branded a "health hazard" at a recent meeting

Children are playing at houses where sewage is coming up onto the front lawn from manholes.

That’s according to Independent Cllr Ben Brennan who called for action in relation to the “health hazard” at Killeshin at a recent meeting.

He tabled a motion asking “that Laois County Council upgrade the sewerage line from the two houses in Killeshin as raw sewage is coming out on the front lawns.”

“It is coming up through the manhole,” said Cllr Brennan at the latest Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District meeting.

“The council say they are not responsible for the sewage but yet that is a council property,” he said.

In a written response to the motion, Senior Engineer Adrian Barrett said “the council will meet with Cllr Brennan on site to inspect the issue.”
