Record number of new homes completed so far this year in Laois

The first three months of 2026 saw the highest number of homes completed in Laois since 2011
A record number of new homes were completed in Laois during the first three months of the year, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office.
This latest report shows that the first quarter of 2026 saw the highest number of homes being completed in Laois since the CSO first began to record the figures in 2011.
According to the CSO's report, there has been a 74% increase in new dwelling completions in Laois, with a total of 243 new homes built in the first three months of 2026 compared to 140 homes during the same period last year.
This rise in the number of completed homes in Laois during the first quarter of 2026 reflects the national yearly increase of 32.9%.
Nationally, there were 7,856 new homes completed during this period and, like that in Laois, this is the highest figure since 2011.
The CSO said that these results reflect a continued strengthening in housing activity and follow a series of positive indicators across the sector.
They noted that the first quarter of the year typically sees smaller figures, with more growth throughout the year. However, these early figures indicate a strong performance for the entire year.
Welcoming the latest figures, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD said: "The CSO data showing record new housing delivery in the first quarter of the year both in Laois as well as nationally, confirms that the pace of homebuilding continues to move in the right direction.
"This record level of completions, combined with more than 8,400 new homes starting construction across the country during the same period, demonstrates real and sustained progress."
He added: "This momentum is reinforced by other encouraging signs across the sector, including strong First‑Time Buyer mortgage drawdowns, record levels of social housing delivery, and robust planning permission activity.
"While the data and numbers are encouraging, the human impact is even more significant. Each of these new homes makes a meaningful and lasting difference in people’s lives, giving individuals and families a secure place to live and the stability to plan for the future."
