A road to a successful Laois wedding venue is in need of repair, a recent meeting was told.

Fianna Fail Cllr Paschal McEvoy said the popularity of the venue has led to additional traffic on the road.

He tabled a motion asking “that this Council carry out repairs to the road from Ballykilcavan to Kellyville and freshen up road  signage at the Cross on the Athy Road.”

“This is turning into a very, very busy road now because of Ballintubbert House up there,” said Cllr McEvoy.

He said there are concerts and weddings at the venue which is creating employment and is good for the local area.

“The road is not sufficient to take the traffic that is going down there at the moment. There is buses going down there on a regular basis going to weddings. It needs to be upgraded in some shape or form. Also, you have Roadstone drawing up and down a lot of stuff along that road as well,” said Cllr McEvoy.

In response to the motion, Senior Executive Engineer, Philip McVeigh said “Laois County Council will arrange for these road repairs and new road markings to be carried out as soon as possible.”

Fine Gael Cllr PJ Kelly seconded the motion.

“That junction is actually dangerous there as well. There was an accident there a good while ago.

He was pleased to hear works would be carried out at the junction.

The issue was discussed at the last meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District
