Speed ramps needed as Laois main street compared to 'racetrack'

Cllr Conor Bergin has called for line markings and a speed ramp in Borris-in-Ossory
There have been calls for speed ramps on a busy main street in Laois which has been compared to a "race track."
Laois County Council have been requested to install road markings and a speed ramp on Church Street in Borris-in-Ossory by local Councillor Conor Bergin.
The Fine Gael councillor told Laois County Council at the recent Borris-in-Ossory / Mountmellick MD meeting that he has received numerous complaints from people about speeding on the road.
Church Street had been resurfaced last year as part of the roads programme, however, Cllr Bergin said that the line markings had not been installed.
"It's a long street and it's like a race track at the moment because there's no road markings or speed ramps, so it's a free for all," Cllr Bergin explained.
With a housing estate located on the road and a number of families living there, Cllr Bergin urged the council that line markings and a speed ramp is badly needed.
Laois County Council are currently carrying out a 30km/h speed limit review survey in built up and urban areas across Laois. Church Street in Borris-in-Ossory is also included in the survey.
The Council said that if the Special Speed Limit Bye-Laws are adopted by Laois County Council, then all associated works such as poles and signage will be completed by March of next year.
Senior Executive Engineer at Laois County Council, Rory O'Callaghan, also assured that Church Street would be lined this year.
