Speed ramps wanted on busy Ridge Road into Portlaoise

Sinn Féin councillor 'not happy with Laois County Council paintjob
Speed ramps on the Ridge Road in Portlaoise have been requested of Laois County Council, to slow down drivers past a housing estate.
Bianconi Way residents are calling for more than just road paint, to deter drivers speeding past their entrance.
Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley, Sinn Féin said they want speed ramps or rumble strips.
"This came up on almost every door. Residents are trying to come out, but the speed of traffic coming down the hill is absolutely fierce.
"There is not a great line of sight to the right, coming out of the estate.
Residents told me there was a ramp. Work was carried out on the road and the ramp was removed.
"If a ramp is needed, I'll put my discretionary fund towards it. Or a rumble strip. I'll meet you halfway. Something has to be done," Cllr Dwane Stanley said.
She said she is "not happy with the response" to her motion tabled at the May meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District, when she asked for traffic calming measures from Bianconi Way to the speed limit sign.
The council engineer said that extra Slow Road markings and a 60kph speed limit marking have been painted on the local road.
Cllr Willie Aird who seconded the motion, suggests trimming back the road verge to improve the sightline.
