St Patrick’s Day intoxication in Portarlington

A man was fined for being intoxicated in Portarlington. 

Stephen Lyons, 27, of 16 Arlington Estate, Portarlington was arrested at the Waterfront Apartments, French Church St, Portarlington on March 17 last. 

The court heard the defendant was unsteady on his feet and he was arrested and conveyed to the garda station. The defendant was issued with a fixed charge penalty notice but it went unpaid. 

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client had brought €100 to court. 

“This gentleman lost his brother and his sister within a month of each  other,” she said. 

“The guards beat me that night,” the defendant told the Judge. 

Judge Nicola Andrews fined the man €160 and gave him six months to pay.
