Thousands raised for Laois fire victims through online fundraisers

People far and wide have donated towards the residents affected by the Portarlington Kilnacourt fire
Fundraisers have been established for the victims of the Kilnacourt fire in Portlarington.
Various fundraisers, from event nights to online GoFundMe’s, have been set up to help those affected.
One online fundraiser has already amassed a whopping €2,800.
“In the days that followed the families were placed in temporary accommodation and will remain there for two weeks,” fundraiser organiser Caroline O’Sullivan said.

“We are asking for donations to help these families so they can replace some of what has been lost to them. All donations are gratefully received,” Ms O’Sullivan finished.
A separate online fundraiser in aid of the Sobczak family, one of the 18 families affected by the fire, has amassed an amazing €2,300.
Melissa and Filip Kral have organised this GoFundMe, and have planned a fundraiser night in the Anvil in Portarlington on March 7.
Local bands Dopamine, Epilogue and Alright Then have announced they will play from 7pm-9pm in support.
Prizes up for grabs on the night have been kindly donated by locals, businesses and community groups.
Prizes include: day passes for Forest Fest Music Festival 2025; two nights away at the Heritage in Kilenard with breakfast, dinner and spa treatments included; a free DJ for an event; a mini photoshoot session with IMK studios; gift sets, hampers, beauty vouchers, artwork and antique coins.

“Through a recent tragic fire, this family of three have lost their home of 16 years, while sustaining serious injuries.
“Slawek is currently undergoing care in St. James Hospital, as he was badly burned. He has undergone several surgeries and painful bandage changes. He will have a long road of recovery ahead,” they said.
“Patryk is also injured from the jump from the third floor and is in a brace. Karolina is trying to support her family's recovery and find a home for them to return to.
“They have made their home here and unfortunately don’t have extended family to turn to for comfort and support.
“Most of us have moved ourselves, or know someone we love who has moved away in search of a better life.
We could only hope that if disaster struck, there would be empathy and warmth shown.
Please let's all show a sense of what it is to be part of a community that cares, and try to dig deep and help this family recover,” they finished.
This fundraiser will take place on March 7 in the Anvil Inn, Portarlington.
