Traffic calming measures approved in Portlaoise

Traffic calming measures are to be put in place at a location in Portlaoise, a council meeting was told.
Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley requested the measures in a motion at a recent meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.
She asked: “That Laois County Council cut back the trees on the spine road in Esker Hills, clean out the drains/manholes with the road sweeper to address the water ponding near the junction adjacent to the shop and and install traffic calming measures in Buttercup Avenue and Heatherlane.”
In a written response, Senior Executive Engineer Wes Wilkinson said: “Installation of traffic calming measures at Buttercup Avenue and Heatherlane will be provided under the Councillors Discretionary Traffic Calming funding within the coming weeks. The blocked gullys in the vicinity of the shop at Esker Hills will be addressed within the next week. The trees on the entrance road to Esker Hills will be examined for pruning on a phased basis commencing in Q. 1 of 2023.”

Cllr Dwane Stanley explained that the husband of a woman who was on the old residents association used to cut the trees. However, he isn’t able to do it any more, she said.
When questioned on the specifics of the road traffic measures, Mr Wilkinson confirmed two ramps would be installed, one in Heatherlane and one in Buttercup Avenue. Cllr Dwane Stanley thanked Mr Wilkinson for his response.
