Traffic ramp to curb 'crazy' speed in Portlaoise housing estate

Traffic is claimed to be travelling at a "crazy speed" into a modern Portlaoise housing estate filled with young families.
Portlaoise councillors have urged action to slow down drivers, particularly in the Heathfields estate on the Mountrath road.
Labour Cllr Marie Touhy tabled a motion asking for a speed ramp, to the October meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.
"It is very busy especially now with the entrance to the Ard Branagh estate. This is home to a lot of young families," she said.
Cllr Thomasina Connell seconded the motion.
"Residents say that the speed of cars coming in is just crazy. We have to look at a campaign for drivers speeding in housing estates," she said.
Portlaoise Municipal District engineer Wes Wilkinson said that a traffic calming ramp will be installed on the entrance to Heathfields Estate, just before the entrance to Ard Branagh estate, within the next four to five weeks.
