Ukrainian war refugees in Laois to celebrate Ukraine's freedom

Ukrainians who have found a sanctuary in Laois from the war raged against their homeland by Russia are planning to join their compatriots around the world in celebration of their homeland's freedom.
Refugees living in Portlaoise and other parts of Laois will gather in the county town on Thursday, August 24 for the Ukraine Independence Day at the Parish Centre.
The day features lots of fun workshops, a display of Ukrainian national dress and a food feast of traditional Ukrainian delicacies. There will also be a performance from Irish people and other nationalities who have made their home in Laois.
The day also features what's called the biggest dream map of Ukraine 2023. People will be allowed to draw a personal map of dreams. All completed pictures will be combined into a big collage image of dreams.
Entry to the event, which runs from 1pm to 4pm, is free.
Transport has also been laid on with buses that will pick up and return people living in different parts of Laois though numbers are limited.
