Ballacolla area problem highlighted to Laois County Council

A day of rain should not result in the amount of flooding on a road in the Ballacolla area according to a councillor who insists action must be taken.

Cllr Ollie Clooney, Independent, made the demand on Laois County Council where he tabled a motion calling for action to relieve the flooding on the Ballygeehan road. He said it floods badly after rain.

“It’s not acceptable in this day and age that there is so much water after a day’s rain. We’ll have to do something with it. It’s a drainage issue,” he said.

He was supported by Cllr John King, Fine Gael.

James Dowling, Senior Executive Engineer in the council’s Roads section, replied.

“Laois County Council area staff will meet with Cllr Clooney to discuss remedial measures to alleviate flooding on the Ballygeehan Road,” he said.

The issue was raised at a meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District.
