Speaking to Morning Ireland this morning Ross explained why his ability to kick with both feet made him stand out from American-born applicants

"The video was just a video of me punting for Pace university. The coach just asked me if could I kick off my left foot as well. I'd be used to doing that in Gaelic football for years. They loved that because in general American kickers can only kick with one foot. If you can interchange between both feet though the opposition has to put two returners back so it's a huge benefit."

Ross also confirmed in the interview that it is looking very likely that he will get the scholarship and is currently weighing up his options in terms of which football program and the academic course suits him.

Ross's father Jim is the current Carlow GAA chairman. He is also a former Leinster GAA chairman and GAA president candidate.
