WATCH: Met Éireann weather star explains 'goodbye' to fans

Joanna Donnelly retires after 30 year weather forecasting career

Popular Met Éireann weather forecaster Joanna Donnelly took to Instagram to explain her goodbye message during what she said was her last appearance on RTÉ as a meteorologist.

The forecaster said she was retiring after 30 years with Met Éireann, ten of which were on TV and radio. Her final weather broadcast was after the RTÉ 9pm news on Easter Monday.

"I've given the very best I could possibly give to the weather forecast so I hope anybody that’s wondering what happened [knows] it wasn’t the forecast," she explained.

She said her career had passed in the "blink of an eye".

Met Éireann said it "does not comment on individual employees, we appreciate the dedication and commitment of all staff in the continued delivery of weather and climate services".
