WATCH - Could there be stormy weather at Electric Picnic?
European weather charts reveal possible stormy scenario for Electric Picnic weekend
Met Éireann’s weather forecasting partners say a ‘quite active’ weather system with wet and windy weather over Britain and Ireland when the Electric Picnic takes place in Laois at the end of August.
In its ten-day forecast posted on August 19, say that this is one of two likely scenarios in European weather charts for the weekend starting August 28 when the Picnic sparks into life in Stradbally.
While the second possibility is unlikely to be stormy, the Met Office say most of the 51 weather models for the weekend of August 28-30 feature an Atlantic low-pressure system close to Ireland and Britain.
The Met Office says there is a 22% of widespread above-average rainfall, while there is a 55% chance of the low pressure moving slowly from the west coast of Ireland over the weekend.
They say low pressure is ‘more likely ’, while where and how it impacts is ‘uncertain’.
Met Éireann forecaster Andrew Doran-Sherlock spoke to the Leinster Express / Laois Live on Thursday, August 20, seven days before early bird campers will be arriving to pitch up at Cosby Hall.
“Currently it is looking like rain and showers at times, but not persistent rain. Temperatures will have highs of 17 to 19 degrees, not too different to the days at the moment.
“There will be south westerly winds but not too strong. There will be some sunny spells, but it’s not likely that the sun will be splitting the stones,” he said.
