Woman in Laois court over non conforming number plates

The Toyota Hilux had no front registration plate and a non conforming rear plate
A woman admitted having no front and a non conforming rear registration plate on a Toyota Hilux.
Rowena Louisa Greene (46) of 4 New Road, Portlaoise, pleaded guilty to the offence at a sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
Garda Stephen O’Hanlon said he stopped the Toyota Hilux on the Dublin Road in Ballyroan on October 28, 2025 at 2.56pm. He said the rear number plate was non conforming and there was no front registration plate. He issued a fine but it wasn’t paid. He said the woman had four previous convictions.
The woman said she was on disability. “I changed the number plates the next day. I couldn’t afford to pay the fine,” she told Judge Susan Fay.
When asked about the lack of a number plate on the front of the vehicle, she said, “it fell off. I put it on the front window”. She told Judge Fay that she hadn’t been aware that the number plates were non conforming.
Judge Fay fined the woman €180 each for the two number plate offences and gave her three months to pay.
