10km family fun cycle to be held in Kenagh this weekend
A special day out guaranteed for all bike enthusiasts
This coming Sunday, June 30, is a special day for families and all bike enthusiasts in Kenagh and surrounding areas.
A 10km fun cycle will be held and all bike owners are invited to take part just for the fun.
Entries for the event will be taken at Doyle's car park from 12 noon.
Three different courses will be arranged, including 3 kilometres, 5 kilometres and 10 kilometres with the greater part of the course taking place around Mosstown and the canal line.
High Nellies and period costumes are not only welcomed but highly encouraged, with prizes given to the best dressed lady or gent on their bikes.
A barbecue will take place in O'Boyle's yard after the rally and a special raffle will be held to distribute donations presented by traders in Kenagh and Ballymahon.
The event is being held in aid of Kenagh District Development Association and the Tidy Towns.
A very exciting extra attraction at this year's rally will be country music star Cliona Hagan, who will perform after the cycle in O’Boyle’s pub.
The cycle will start at 2pm but the event will also cater for walkers and children, as Brian Egan, one of the organisers explained.
"Younger children and walkers can take a route around the Mosstown estate. We are encouraging people to bring High Nellie bicycles and dress up in period costume, if they wish.
"The cycle will take place on cycleways around Kenagh,” Brian stated.
Tickets cost €10 for single entries and €20 for families, with admission to the barbeque included in ticket price.
Last year's event raised a significant €5,500, with the proceeds being used for work that was needed in the village and surrounding areas.
The event attracted around 100 cyclists last year, and all bike enthusiasts and families alike are encouraged to come along for a great day out.
