Anniversary of Ukraine's Invasion to be marked in Longford

Special mass for Peace and Justice in Ukraine takes place in St Mel's cathedral at 7.30pm
The third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraineis set to be marked today (Monday, February 24) in Longford.
Since then, many Ukrainians who fled the invasion are currently living in different locations throughout the county.
The Ukrainian community, along with some local people, have organised two events to mark this sad day in their calendar.
Last Saturday there was a unique art exhibition and sale in the Longford Library launched by local businessperson Seamus Rawle.
The exhibition featured work by well known local artists Pat Hourican, Nicole Forster and June Belton. Two well known Ukrainian artists, based in Ukraine have sent over work also, while locally based and talented artists will also have their work on display.
One extremely talented 16 year old as well as their granny produced a stunning piece and her first work since the Russian invasion. Jack Dolan, a Longford native, but based in London, has also donated one of his pieces. It's unique because of its international spread but will also include three photos from well known photographers.
Any funds raised will go to send shield box gifts to children still living in fear in Ukraine. To date almost 1,500 gifts have been sent from Longford.
Today there will be a special mass for Peace and Justice in Ukraine which will take place in St Mel's cathedral, at 7.30pm.
Two Ukrainian choirs and participation (in English) from local Ukrainian children will make this a very special and moving mass. Everyone is more than welcome.
