Ballinamuck's day of destiny arrives as thousands savour 225th anniversary commemoration weekend

The term 'being put on the map' may be often used and seldom earned but thanks to a four day historical commemorative weekend, the north Longford village of Ballinamuck can justifiably claim such a distinguished mantle.
Thousands of visitors came and experienced what has already been dubbed one of this county's most successful tourism led initiatives in the form od the 225th Battle of Ballinamuck anniversary commemoration.
Chairperson of its organising committee Mark Cunningham said the festival had not just matched but surpassed all expectations.
He said while one of the occasion's chief aims was to honour all those who had lost their lives in battle, the village of Ballinamuck had quite rightly taken its place on the local and national stage over the course of four glorious and equally memorable days last weekend.
