Longford’s local economy is poised for a massive boost with the creation of two hundred new jobs at Food Village’s €3 million state-of-the-art, 35,000sq ft facility at Mastertech Business Park.

Food Village (foodvillage.ie) is the most  innovative and largest provider of tech-enabled secondary school meals in the country and Minister of State at the Department of Finance and TD for Longford-Westmeath, Robert  Troy, will officially open the new facility today (Thursday, May 29) at 4pm.

Minister Troy will be joined by Food Village’s Founder and CEO, Richie Nangle, Business Partner and COO, Joe Kavanagh, and Chairman of Food Village’s Advisory Board, Frank Gleeson, along with a range of local representatives and employees, for the official opening ceremony.

This significant jobs announcement comes as part of Food Village’s investment of more than €3 million into their Longford facilities, as well as €1 million investment in the company’s  impressive technology system and dedicated software team, all of which support their  ambitious, national expansion plan to serve more than 100,000 secondary school  students across the country.

Stressing that ‘the provision of hot school meals is of fundamental importance for  the wellbeing of pupils and contributes to better mental and physical health’, Minister Troy commended the Food Village team.

He remarked, “I commend the whole team at Food Village for what they are developing here in Longford, and the national impact they are having on issues like food insecurity. In particular, thanks to Richie Nangle for his ongoing vision and commitment in this area. This is a significant jobs  announcement for Longford, and I look forward to the continued growth of Food Village  and their mission to provide school meals.”

Food Village’s Founder and CEO, Richie Nangle, said they are very proud to officially open their new Longford facility, and to announce the new jobs.

Mr Nangle continued, “The quality of this site perfectly represents our joint commitment to providing the highest  quality, fresh, nutritious, and locally sourced meals to secondary school students  nationwide. Although this is a huge milestone for Food Village, we look forward to  doubling our team and building a healthy future for our young people, while creating  much-needed employment opportunities in a community we are proud to be a part of.”

Food Village has confirmed that hiring is underway for a number of additional roles, with  positions spanning culinary production and kitchen staff, business development,  logistics and distribution, mechanics, customer services, IT, HR and more.

The Longford facility will serve as a nationwide distribution hub for the company’s comprehensive hot school meals and convenience solutions, specifically for secondary  schools.
